where is the best area for shopping in new york?

i’m going to new york soon and was wondering what the best area for shopping is? i’m a 17 year old male. i would particurlarly like to get some boots, trainers, and a kinda puffer jacket whilst i’m there

Depending on your budget 5th Avenue or go to Century 21 at The World Trade Center (Ground Zero). Its like TK Maxx/ Matalan and really cheap.

Any big events in New York scheduled for 2010? Want to plan a vacation around something…?

I am wanting to go ahead and plan another trip to New York for next year, but since we have been there and done that with all the regular tourist attractions, I would ideally like to schedule the trip around some event that may be going on that we can go to as well. Does anyone know any events that are already scheduled for 2010 in New York City? Ex: Concerts, fashion shows, misc. shows, premiers etc… Anything exciting and worth going to see… just brainstorm!

Thanks guys!

Check out nycgo.com for their official events calendar. Many concerts are not announced till later in the year. If you are into art, most museums announce their exhibits well in advance. Good luck!

Nebraska to New York Tourist Spots?

I am going with my husband and kids to New York from Nebraska soon and want to know if anyone knows the good tourist attractions. I love touring caves and would also like places for the kids. I don’t plan on going off I-80

Howe Caverns might be on your way when you are getting close to NYC

Month maybe more student holiday in new york?

Ok, well the title kind of says it, I’m leaving school next year, want to do something kind of different and I’ve thought about going to New york for a bit, maybe a month or more, visiting other parts of america too, I’m not sure really, I wouldn’t like loads of traveling but to settle myself somewhere like new york, with things to do and enjoy myself. Any experiences? where to stay for a month? costs? ideas? resources? (I’ve searched the internet but not found much really) Good people, help? =D

There is an American Youth Hostel in New York City, google it.
Also look on Craig’s list for New York.

The best deal for you would be to apartment sit while someone is on vacation.

Where to stay in New York?

My boyfriend and I are planning on going to New York in November for a few days shopping and sight seeing etc. Can anybody recommend any good accommodation or hotels where we could stay? Somewhere within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants etc.

Thankyou!

Hey there!

I often use Priceline to book my hotels and I get an excellent rate. I often book VERY safe 4 start hotels in Midtown Manhattan, right in the center of the city for $80 per night.

There is a website which explains all about how to book through Priceline’s "Name your own price" program. You may want to check it out and follow the instructions to get the very best deal. If you want a cheap, safe hotel the best way to go is with Priceline’s name your own price program.

The site with the instructions is: http://www.CheapInTheCity.com

Looks under the "Save BIG on Hotels" section.

Good luck!

How flights are there from Europe each day to New York.?

I’m thinking of taking a holiday from England and I’m doing a bit of risk assessment.

There are 3 airports in the NYC metropolitan area (newark being in NJ)..from the 3 JFK(john F Kennedy) and EWR (Newark Liberty) fly International to England which is the busiest international location for both airports….there are a lot of flights that fly from england to New york airports daily…the carriers are Delta, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Continental Airlines..so don’t worry there are many flights

new york city light pollution and binoculars?

What I left out is, I live in Queens NY. Therefore, I only see the most prominent stars (Castor, Pullox, Procyon, Arcturus, Antares, Spica, Regulus (and some other stars in leo but not all), capella, vega and deneb). I know people are going to say take a drive to a less light-polluted area, but with my telescope, I see more stars. I own books like, "Turn Left and Orion", "Nightwatch", "Universe", "The Backyard astronomer’s Guide", The "Astropack", "Atlas of the constellations". I use these references (especially "Turn Left at Orion") as guides to help me view other galaxies and nebulas. However, first you must locate a star of a constellation BEFORE you can locate the galaxy or nebula, eg M51, M81 and M82 are right by ursa major, but when I look into my finder/ telescope I see a bunch of stars and the pattern of ursa mjor is totally lost within the stars. If anyone here has this problem and lives in a light-polluted area like myself, do you still think binoculars is the solution?

I observed for about seven years from downtown Toronto, which is probably about as bad as Queens, so I feel your pain. Binoculars are definitely a help in this situation. In particular I’d recommend the 10×50 size, as these will give you maximum sky contrast, and you need all the help you can get. They’ll also have a wide enough field of view, 6 degrees or so, to bridge the gap between your naked eye and the views through your telescope. With binoculars you can start from the stars you can see, and begin to "fill in the blanks" in between.

It’s still worth it to try to find a location that at least is shaded from direct light. My back yard was pretty good, surrounded by houses on all sides with fences and a hedge blocking most direct lights. It’s often worth joining a local astronomy club, partly because they know the best local spots, but also partly for the company if you don’t feel safe at a dark location (I know all about that too!)
