i love nyc for back to school shopping…i go there every year…
by funky…i think your meaning like eclectic style…
but anyways these are some of my favs for unique pieces to add to my wardrobe…
- anthropologie (50-200 price range)
- free people (sams prices as above)
- there are so many boutiqes to name but in the 22-15 blocks on fifth ave have some cool stores with stuff you probably won’t find at many other places (one comes to mind but i can’t remember the name..)

Here in Montreal, every summer we have a Jazz Festival & this year a new Francophone Festival was just started. I really like being around Festivals, with different types of artists, indie or major. I always wanted to move to New York City & I still do one day, but my question is, do they have any annual festivals or certain activities people participate in every year?

Allow me to be blunt, but after that car bomb that didn’t detonate in Times Square, all I can picture is yet another person trying the same thing…

I fly from LDN to JFK a week today and my excitement has hit an all time high. I am going with my college for an economics trip. However i have saved £650 ($961) will this be enough for clothes, general souverigns and food? I plan to hit shops like AnF , Hollister, Polo and Sports stores.

Also what are the MUST do’s of NYC?

As usual Native NYer has good answers with his usual list of attractions. My suggestions
# 1 bring very very very comfortable shoes.
#2 buy some of those I love NY T shirts price is around $10 for 5 to 6 of them. That takes care of the souvenirs for your friends at home. Most of the time the souvenirs you bring back as presents just sit in someones drawers until they are thrown out.
#3 Shopping for yourself, try to plan on buying just one or two good items, for cheap stuff go to Conways on bdwy one block north of Macy’s (BTW you can get an 11% discount at Macy’s if you stop by the visitors desk and show your passport) There is no sales tax on clothing items that sell for less than $110
#4 Free admission to these museums Friday evenings Museum of Modern Art (aka MOMA) The Morgan Library, Rubin Museum of Himalyan Art, pay what you wish at the Whitney Fri evenings.

i live in new york and i was planning on having dinner in the city. i go to manhattan loads of times but im not sure where i should have my birthday dinner. the problem is that within manhattan you pay for overpriced food that doesnt even taste good. your basically just paying for the fact that your in the city, when in reality you could get better food at a local diner. i was thinking about Max Brenner or Serendipity. anyone have any other ideas?

BBQ’s in Times Square or near Central Park is pretty good. Not GREAT! but good and yea Manhattan is pretty pricey. I usually go out to eat in Queens and Manhattan to browse lol. I HIGHLY recommend New Grand Buffet Restaurant in Long Island City. Email me for more info, best wishes!

I’ve been reading about the amount of scam rentals in New York City and keep finding endless posts on forums saying that all/most of the time it’s illegal to rent an apartment in New York for less than 30 days. Is this true? What law is it stopping us and how can we find the few legal lets?

Most people do it regardless of whatever law. There is also a law in New York that you cannot dance if the bar has no Cabaret license….

There is a 30 day rule in New York. If someone has resided in a unit for more than 30 days regardless of payment status, that person has a right to the dwelling and can only be put out through legal Eviction through Court procedure.

So if you stay somewhere 31 days it is illegal for the locks to be changed etc.

Given that, it probably is not legal because anything less than 30 days the person can totally throw you out and do whatever with the money.

Most NYPD officers will always refer Tenant situations to court unless violence is involved.

Are there any things which are no problem in Europe but could cause some wonder/painfulness/trouble in New York?

Don’t stand in the middle of the sidewalk gawking at the buildings, blocking traffic.
No sandals with socks.
No backpacks on the subway.
Tip at least 15% of your food bill (easy way to remember this is double the tax).

I want to be in quiet, nature setting away from manhattan to relax for a weekend.

The Adirondacks would be perfect. There are places to camp, mountains to hike, and the Adirondack museum is fun to see as well. Up by Lake Placid also there are plenty of places to do the same sort of thing and in the same area. If you want to go even farther away than that you could travel up to Alexandria Bay to see Boldt Castle or you could go to Niagara Falls. There are so many places in New York State outside of NYC.

I’m hoping to go there for like a week or two with my cousin in a few years time, when I get a job and save up that is. Where is the cheapest site to book plane tickets? (I don’t care if the plane is crap haha)

The price of tickets right now on that route will depend on the time of year you want to travel (winter is cheaper than summer, with few exceptions), meaning that the price of a round-trip ticket could be anywhere from $600 to $1200 or more, depending on when you go.

Keep in mind, though, that there are many factors (such as competitive pressures or the price of oil) that could drastically affect the price of a ticket between now and several years from now. (Airlines don’t publish fares more than 11 months in advance or so, so no one can tell you what the price will be then, and the prices now could be meaningless in the event of major market shifts.) Thus, while people can give you prices of tickets now, they’re merely a range based on what the price could be at any point during the year, and even then, those prices could well change over time.

My husband and I really enjoy restaurants that are a little unusual. Fondue restaurants, hibachi grills, renaissance restaurants, revolving dining on the 50th floor… you get the idea. We are planning a trip to I KNOW there have got to be some wonderful dining experiences in New York City… but searching through a conventional search engine is proving difficult. Has anyone been to NYC or lives there and knows anything exciting to visit?

I am taking my first trip to New York City. I always hear people saying you have to walk up to the venders and ask for the good purses in the back….is this true. Anyone have any advise.

These re counterfeits, not knock-offs. There is a difference, Counterdfeuits are illegal and immoral on so many levels.

Just ask yourself…Do you want someone else to be paid for work that you do?
