NYC New York City

Everybody loves the Big Apple!

A holiday to New York. Should we go 3 days or a week?

My girlfriend and I live in London and are planning to go to New york for a short holiday. I’d prefer to go for about a week (although it would cost quite a bit more) because of the jetlag and adjusting to the time difference.

but my girlfriend suggests that we should go for a 3-day weekend because we would eventually get bored of the sights and it would be a lot cheaper. Can anyone help us make a decision?

There’s no question that three days would be cheaper, but there is plenty to do in New York that will take up a whole week of your time, and you still won’t have seen everything there is to see!

In order to figure out what would be best for you, I recommend starting to figure out what kind of trip you want to take. Do you want to do the touristy thing and see all the tourist sites? Do you want to go shopping and take advantage of New York stores? Do you want to explore the artsy parts of the city? Do you want to see as many plays as possible? Do you want to eat out a lot and explore the culinary offerings of NYC?

Once you figure out what kind of a trip you want, you can see for yourself if you think you’d get bored after three days, or if a week would be great for you.

I also think that if you’re coming all the way to New York from London, it would be a shame to only come for three days and then leave, just when you’ve managed to get over jet lag!

Good luck!

I would say 3 days because there is not too much in new york. Go to all the cool sites for three days and it will be fun but a week there is a little too much for a place with only pretty sites and it would be very expensive. I agree, it would get boring. Well, have fun !

I would recommend going for a week, there are plenty of things to do in a week. Three days is too short of a visit.

Good luck

I would say a week. There are plenty of cheaper things to do in NY that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I would start with the more expensive stuff that you know you would really want to do and that you would do in your 3 day weekend.. then spend the other days just going for a walk, cheaper dinner, enjoying central park. You would probably enjoy yourselves better if you didn’t rush through things.
And why take another trip back to get the stuff you missed the first time? Do it all in one trip!

I have traveled to NY many times, all the walking and tourist stuff takes a lot of your energy.

if you can afford it, stay for a week, there’s a LOT of sh*t to do here!

But be forewarned, it’s VERY expensive here. Hence the old joke, "Sure, we’ve got cash machines in NYC, they’re called ‘tourists!’"

Good luck!… ?
