Us Airways (flight 1549) plane crashes into Hudson River in New York

US Airways Flight 1549 took off grom Laguardia airport at 3:26 p.m. It was less than a minute later when the pilot reported a “double bird strike” and said he needed to return to LaGuardia
Returning to LaGuardia, he quickly realized, was out. So was nearby Teterboro Airport, where he had never flown before, and which would require him to take the jet over densely populated northern New Jersey.
The co-pilot kept trying to restart the engines, while checking off emergency landing procedures on a three-page list that the crew normally begins at 35,000 feet.
Capt.Sullenberger guided the gliding jet over the George Washington Bridge and looked for a place to land.
With both engines out, a cool-headed pilot maneuvered his crowded jetliner over New York City and ditched it in the frigid Hudson River saved the all 155 people on board.

New video from coast guard that report the US Airway crash in Hudson River.
Airplane crash-lands into Hudson River; all aboard reported safe.
A US Airways plane with more than 150 people aboard went down in the Hudson River on Thursday after taking off from LaGuardia Airport, and everyone aboard got off the plane alive, officials said.
Flight 1549, headed to Charlotte, North Carolina, may have experienced a bird strike, according to FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown.

Passenger Alberto Pinero said that within a couple minutes after takeoff, “you just heard a loud bang and the plane shook a bit.”

Passengers could smell smoke, and “the plane just started turning. … We knew something was going on, ’cause look, we were turning back,” he said.
“Somehow, the plane stayed afloat and we were all able to get on a raft,” Pinero said. “It’s just incredible now that everyone’s still alive.”

The plane had 148 passengers, Brown said, and either five or six crew members on board when it took off at 3:26 p.m. It was airborne for less than three minutes, she said.

Everyone on board exited the Airbus A320, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

    They didn’t keep it …
They didn’t keep it from sinking. In fact, there was so little time, they were unable to take the precautions of closing off the cabin and plane so water could not come in, so it was only a matter of time before it sank. But the air inside caused it to take a while to sink.
