How much money would it cost to get from East Village to Greenwich?

I’m writing a story set in NYC and I grew up in the Bay Area so I am unfamilar with the cab fair rate. Also, is coffee really as bad as they say it is there?

You can also take the M8 crosstown bus on weekdays. The fare is $2.25.
